In 1981, some Fathers of the Foreign Missions of Paris presented Fondacio to the Kuala Lumpur Archdiocese. The community’s dynamism attracted lots of young people who became members from the first years. Today, the community is settled in Kuala Lumpur. It is considered as a Mission, under the responsibility of a member of the Council of Fondacio since September 2012.
Annie Yap Pei Lan is the Head of Fondacio Malaysia and coordinates the activities of the community with the help of Teresa Sebastiamal and Patrick Santa Maria.
The many changes that happened in the country, on a Church but also society level, have slowed down the development of the community on a local level. As a balance, Fondacio Malaysia’s mission for other countries grew even bigger and more enthousiastic. Its members are particularly involved in missions in Myanmar and China.
On the local level, Fondacio Malaysia is involved in the activity of Saint John Cathedral, in link with the persons responsible. It also provides full pedagogical training modules, like, for example, the “Lays in the Ministry” program meant to help parishes train people in charge of parish and minirsty duties.
It is involved in the development and setting up of the Couples and Families mission to call families rooted in Christ who testify their faith and help couples and families by giving them tools to build their couples relationship and their educative project.
It also participates in the setting up of a common pastoral team for Eastern and Western Malaysia, with IFFAsia graduates mainly, sharing resources and strengthening links. It also wishes to develop activities such as training of young migrants in Western Malaysia in particular, in big cities in particular.
In 2006, IFFAsia was created in the Philippines, and two Malaysian members went there.
