The ecological transition at L'Ermitage

Since last June, I have been working part-time at L'Ermitage, Fondacio's headquarters, to accompany the ecological transition of the site. With all the activities of L'Ermitage Accueil, the missions are just as different as the others.

In the food division, our objective is to offer a more sustainable and quality food with local products (ideally within a radius of 200 km). Also, we are working to raise awareness of the challenges of sustainable food with posters in the dining hall and a self-service Bio Consom'acteurs guide. We are also in the process of proposing a coffee that is fair trade. We will also soon forget about factory-made tea bags to offer herbal teas from the garden.

Outside, L'Ermitage is a 1.5 hectare site in the heart of Versailles and we benefit from large green spaces. In order to be ecologically coherent, we bet that we could bring the St Joseph meadow to life, that it would be a source of vegetable production with the establishment of a vegetable garden. After the shared gardens of the Colibris, created almost 2 years ago, a 200m² mandala vegetable garden has been created since the autumn. We have just received the seeds, we will soon start the first sowings. The entire production is intended to supply the catering sector. In addition, we are trying to rethink the overall development of the site to have edible bushes, spaces for aromatic plants, etc.. We are in contact with the Institut Supérieur de l'Environnement and the Ecole Supérieure de Paysagiste de Versailles to reflect on these issues.

L'Ermitage also means events, gatherings, meetings. Covid-19 has somewhat disturbed our way of seeing things but has not stopped us, far from it! Every two months, we propose film-sharing with a theme related to the ecological transition. The next one will take place on March 17th at 8 pm. A first Gratiferia (free party) was organized at the end of September, the cycle of conferences with the Centre Huit has been launched since this month of February and we will soon launch sewing workshops with the residents and volunteers of L'Ermitage. As soon as the situation allows us, we will propose face-to-face Climate Frescoes, and certainly other evenings on the ecological transition.

In addition, for the past few months, we have been involved in the Label Eglise Verte program, which encourages a real dynamic with a team of volunteers who are joyfully involved. Nature walks (for the general public) will soon be organized and we are getting in touch with other parishes and dioceses to share our values of integral ecology.

Finally, we are working on our presence on the territory and meeting local actors in order to reach the greatest number of people. The Third Place of L'Ermitage has the vocation to be an inspiring center, a resourcing place where we find elements of answers to environmental and social issues.

This non-exhaustive list of missions aims to be ecologically coherent, to live a human, relational and environmental ecology. Rich in encounters, social ties, challenges and ambitions, this year I live at L'Ermitage as a real chance, an opportunity to imagine a desirable future for everyone, to build the world of tomorrow.
