Fondacio Asia: Common journey of transformation

Inclusiveness, localization and innovation. These are the principles of the learning process that we begin in August at Fondacio Asia. We call it “Shared Journey of Transformation”.

We aim to become an open, localized and innovative discipleship community, witnessing to the Kingdom of God in Asia, with appropriate structures and resources to carry out the mission.

Initially, we wanted to provide the necessary training skills to our project teams.

However, we cannot just look at skills. We also need to think about how we are organized, how we work, make decisions and learn together.

We also realized the need to be more inclusive. Go beyond our staff and leaders. Rather, it needs to be open to the elderly and the young, and to people who engage with us in different ways.

What is this shared journey of transformation?

The Common Journey of Transformation is a year-long learning process for staff, members, alumni, volunteers and friends of Fondacio Asia.

Through this we aim to:

  • find new ways to be a community and support our missions,
  • renew our vision of faith and communion (aligned with a larger cause), and
  • To continue to anchor our identity and our mission in our Asian context and in the local Churches.

It includes 5 phases.

We will use different tools and processes to adapt to our current situation such as online workshops and small group sharing.

There will also be quarterly regional assemblies where we can meet other people from the different missions and communities of Fondacio.

At the same time, we will experience moments of solitude and silence which will help us to integrate our learning into our daily life and to deepen our spirituality.

Recent meeting of the Asian leadership team

To prepare and lead this training process, we created the Asian leadership team.

It is made up of 12 members who assume leadership roles in their respective communities or missions. We are proud that the majority of them are young people.

Our facilitator Kuya Charles, who is also our former regional coordinator, guides us through this process despite his busy schedule.

During our 2nd Zoom meeting on July 16, we thought about 3 questions to implement this process:

1. Why do we need to be inclusive?

2. Why is location important?

3. How to encourage innovation?

In short, we took Jesus as a model of inclusion, innovation and communion. On how he challenged the status quo that oppresses the least, the lost and the little ones. Through this he brings healing and welcomes everyone into the kingdom of God.
