Fondacio En Colombie

Fondacio in Colombia since 2010

A community at the service of inclusion for all

As the work carried out in 2010 with the beneficiary population of the “Como pez en el agua” project progressed, Fondacio in Colombia became aware of a particular problem among adolescents: by becoming young people, they are no longer interested in the activities on offer, and once again find themselves left to their own devices, with no interesting alternative to spend their free time.

They then end up staying on the street where they run the risk of being exposed to drugs and crime. Fondacio has understood the need to prevent this risk.

OASIS was born in September 2010 with the aim of offering a place that can accommodate these teenagers, during their free time, when they are not at school, but also mothers and grandmothers involved in education. . Over the years and meetings, the Oasis project has opened up to other beneficiaries and has diversified its activities.

Today, Oasis operates in areas as diverse as children’s education, the environment and home improvement.

Our actions in Colombia

In Fondacio in Colombia, there are also projects related to the spiritual identity of our community.

JUNA “: this group of young people is made up of 8 members aged 18 to 26, students and young professionals. In training since October 2017, they recently participated in the World Youth Days in Panama, from January 17 to 28, 2019.

The ” Intimacy with God“: this group is dedicated to spiritual formation and the practice of Lectio Divina. It is about strengthening friendship with Jesus through exchange and sharing with others and the deepening of Kerygma. The Group works hand in hand with the Archdiocese of Bogotá to implement “Plan E”, an evangelism plan proposed by the Church to move from a pastoral ministry to a missionary evangelization, outside the walls of the Church , therefore more in harmony with what God wants from us and with the reality of the city of Bogotá.

The ” Direction qui fait sens ” is a group of 15 leaders of social organizations, accompanied by two members of Fondacio. The goal is to encourage everyone to develop their talents in order to make their actions an expression of God’s love and to build a more humane and just world.

ARNAUD

International Volunteer

Hello, my name is Arnaud, I am 24 years old and I have just spent 9 months at Oasis in the Habitat project.

I think my best memory at Oasis was the house building we did on Saturday mornings. I think being all together, getting up early, and then being in the middle of the mountain building houses in one day, like that, was one of those pretty unique moments.

Especially when we were playing music, the family was cooking, and there were people bringing their friends... It was good times and I will really remember them.

Oasis in a nutshell? Friendship.

MARGAUX

International Volunteer

I have just spent 9 months at Oasis in the Education project.

What I liked the most about the Education project was the team spirit. Even if there could sometimes be tensions like in any team, it was nice to be able to share. Sometimes the days can be long, especially when you take care of the children all day, it can be tiring. Then being able to share with the team once everyone has left, take stock and see that everyone feels a little the same, it helps to evacuate!

My best memory at Oasis is when we finally got the trampoline out which was hidden behind a cabinet at the back of the storage room and set it up in the middle of the main room. I think the best moment was when all the kids came in and saw the trampoline... there were stars in their eyes, they were so happy! And even seeing them on the trampoline, which is something they didn't have, is wonderful.

ELEONORE

French volunteer

My name is Eléonore, I am 23 years old and I have just spent 9 months in the Oasis Environment project.

This Environment project aims to ensure that citizens recover their local environment through 3 projects. First, the development of urban vegetable gardens. Second, support for the recycling cooperative. And thirdly, the creation of a soap creation activity based on recycled used oils.

My best memories at Oasis were the connections we were able to make with people in the neighborhood. For example, one Sunday morning, I went to install compost in the house of a lady living there with all her family. Then we shared a meal together, so it's really these bonds that we create that are for me the most beautiful memories.

OASIS Project

In the socio-economic context of a poor neighborhood in Bogotá, many children are sometimes left to their own devices on the streets, without any activity or adult supervision.

Ciudad BOLIVAR

Since 2015, Oasis (Colombia) has been developing a microcredit program, an additional tool to help families in the territory improve their quality of life.

This local project at the service of a more humane and fairer world was created in 2010 to help the inhabitants of the peripheral and marginal neighborhood of San Isidro in Bogotá. In order to reduce poverty, Oasis encourages the personal and professional development of the inhabitants. This area without legalization or at high risk generates unfavorable environments for the population, since it does not have the complete infrastructure of basic services in water, electricity, gas and basic sanitation essential for adequate living conditions. Construction of prefabricated houses With the support of volunteers and the Oasis team, prefabricated houses are built with the support of a local foundation. The OASIS Habitat project also conducts a process of monitoring and supporting families who benefit from prefabricated housing.

Economic context

Colombia has shown solid and steady growth over the decade 2007-2017 and has a relatively diversified economy. With a nominal GDP of 337 billion USD in 2018 (about 6,661 USD per capita), the country is positioned as the 4th economy in Latin America.

The country has significant resources in energy raw materials: about 7 years of oil reserves (production is however down 3.5% on average in 2017 compared to the 2016 average); 30 years of coal reserves (11th producer and 5th exporter). Despite their weight, the Colombian economy shows a certain degree of diversification, even if the agricultural and agri-food potential of Colombia is very important and remains under-exploited, due to lack of investment (22 M ha of arable land, of which only 23% currently in use).

In 2017, GDP growth reached +1.8% (after +2% in 2016), driven by the agricultural sector, financial services and social services. On the other hand, the year was marked by a recession in the mining and manufacturing sectors, as well as by the poor direction of construction. In the second quarter of 2018, GDP growth was 2.8%, driven by professional and scientific services, agriculture and fishing, and public administration, while the mining and construction sectors continued their upward trend. the decline.

The current account, structurally in deficit, improved in 2017, to -3.3% of GDP. At 39.4 billion dollars, Colombian exports increased by 15.8% in 2017 (against + 2.3% for imports). The main key export positions are hydrocarbons, coffee, precious stones and metals, floriculture, plastics and fruits. The country’s main trading partners are the United States, China, the European Union, Mexico, Ecuador and Chile. In this context, export and budgetary revenues are largely dependent on the prices of energy raw materials and the international situation.

Thanks to a favorable commercial climate (legal framework, training of the workforce, protection of investments), an openly liberal economic policy and the new development opportunities offered by the peace agreement concluded with the FARC, the country should be able to sustainably maintain its attractiveness for foreign direct investment. investment (FDI), in particular to help diversify the structure of the economy.

Colombia joined the OECD on May 30, 2018, after a five-year accession process. This is the achievement of the second major objective of the outgoing President of the Republic, Juan Manuel Santos, after the signing of the peace agreement with the FARC. With this decision, the OECD recognizes the many reforms undertaken by Colombia for this accession. However, a demanding roadmap for reform has been set by the OECD. They must be carried out in the years to come.
