Fondacio Chile : The common pot 'Ayudando a Nuestros Vecinos' delivers food, joy and encouragement to many families in El Barrero on a weekly basis. This initiative came about from the Juan Gomez Football School, run by the founder himself and now coordinator of the olla común, Don Juan Gomez, who contacted the El Bosque 2 Neighbourhood Council to provide a space for this activity.
Juan Gómez shares with us that 'Ayudando a Nuestros Vecinos' came about as a result of observing the needs of his own neighbours: "We were motivated to do this for the community, as we saw that there were many people who did not have enough to eat, as well as many prostrate grandparents".
In this pot, which is made twice a week, all of Juan's family participate, in fact, his daughter Valentina, 19 years old, is part of this help and she comments: "I feel happy for what my family does, giving food to those who need it most, because not everyone has the same resources".
Another of the participants is Juan Mauricio Cabrera, who is in charge of making the delivery to the neighbours in the sector, mainly older adults who cannot go to the common pot in person. He shares with us: "The main reason why I have joined is to see the need that was born among the neighbours because of the pandemic and I am happy to join this team".
Sandra Tapia, president of the Neighbourhood Council, was the one who set up the place so that this common pot could work and, moreover, she is in charge of the requests for the snacks and donations: "Right now Fondacio is helping us by sending us the food we need".
Ayudando a Nuestros Vecinos' delivers 250 solidarity lunches and works on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8.30 to 13.00.
