"To show young people that it is possible, on their own scale, to live and bring the values of a world that is respectful of mankind in business".
From June 22 to 26, students of the parcoursTremplin program took a week of training in business creation. Between a theoretical approach and practical situations, their trainer, Matthias SCHULER, concocted an intensive session for them. A meeting with this Swiss entrepreneur.
You will spend a week with the students of the IFF Europe Tremplin Course on the theme of business creation: why?
Matthias SCHULER: I had the privilege of spending a year at CIRFA (the former name of IFF Europe until 2009, editor's note). I was then particularly impressed by personalities like Pierre Carrigue and François de Laage, who were involved in giving us their precious time despite overloaded agendas. Their testimonies were particularly striking moments for me.
So you are looking to pass on what you have received?
Yes, that's what I'm trying to do. I wish to offer a little of my time to give back a little of all the riches that have been given to me. It's important to be able to show young people that it is possible, on their own scale, to live and make live the values of a world that respects mankind, even though the company today is not concerned enough with this essential point. These are the values that link me to IFF Europe.
"Sharing a humanist vision integrated with the economic requirements essential to any entrepreneurial organisation".
How are you in a good position to talk about entrepreneurship?
I've been working for over 30 years. I've worked my way up through the ranks as an executive, a senior manager and finally as an entrepreneur. I have also followed a training course which led me to a double e-MBA certification in business management. In addition, I teach corporate strategy, management, employee leadership and human resources at various private schools in Switzerland. This practical and theoretical approach has led me to share a humanistic vision integrated with the economic requirements essential to any entrepreneurial organisation.
How is the " Creation d'entreprise " session organised?
The session is built on the following principle: starting from a personal idea to create a company as a group. Throughout the week, theoretical elements necessary to develop the creation of a company are presented. The students define their project and develop it by integrating the different theoretical contributions received. By the end of the week, the groups must submit a complete file and prepare a presentation to a jury of "bankers" to support their credit application. The last afternoon is devoted to the bankers' feedback and the week's results from both a personal and group point of view. The speakers, through their testimonies, testify that it is possible to blossom in a professional life while living and sharing strong human values. There is no a priori contradiction between these two elements.
"This session is useful because the participants get to know each other better and gain a closer understanding of the reality and requirements of the company. »
How is this session useful in a process of reorientation?
It allows students to experience project management and the creation of a company in a team, to analyse and better understand their positioning within the framework of a group project, to project themselves in the professional world, to question the status they would like to have (entrepreneur, employee) and finally, to experiment their skills (organisation, leadership, communication, etc.). At the end of the week, they are able to envisage their professional future with new elements. It is also about providing students with a different vision of the business world (often perceived as unfair, not taking individuals into account) especially this year when students will not have been able to do a work placement due to the health crisis. This session is useful if only because the participants get to know each other better and gain a closer understanding of the reality and requirements of the company.
