Another school year comes to an end. Young Lives Laos graduates had a farewell mass to bless them as they return to their communities. Towards a new path in life where they can apply what they have learned in their training and their faith.
The Mass was held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Vientiane on March 22, 2020. The Mass was celebrated by Cardinal Louis Marie Ling Mangkhanekhoun (Apostolic Vicar of Vientiane) and Father Vimanphet Indavong (parish priest).
This was followed by a “Basi” ceremony: a cultural blessing ritual for students and teachers. A simple program and a moment of fraternity were shared with few guests in accordance with the health measures due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite the small number of guests, the event was a very warm and intimate moment. We thank our partners who joined us at this event: the Daughters of Charity, as well as the Sisters of Charity, some of our key members and a priest who came from Thailand.
It was an opportunity for graduates to share their learning and express gratitude to the people who helped them grow. One graduate said:
“I feel happy and proud of myself, because now I can achieve one of my goals. This is the first step but it was a very significant step for me. I can see myself a lot that I have improved my knowledge well. And now also I realize the power of friendship. It is very important for us to live together.”
