Fondacio Chile: We continue to help our neighbors.

Community - SOLIDARITY

Fondacio Chile: The common pot “Ayudando a Nuestros Vecinos” offers food, joy and encouragement to many families in El Barrero on a weekly basis. This initiative came from the Juan Gomez Soccer School, led by the founder himself and now coordinator of the olla común, Don Juan Gomez, who contacted the El Bosque 2 neighborhood council to provide a space for this activity.

Juan Gómez shares with us that “Ayudando a Nuestros Vecinos” was born from observing the needs of his own neighbors: “We were motivated to do this for the community, because we saw that there were many people who did not have enough to eat, as well as many prostrate grandparents.”

In this pot, which is made twice a week, Juan's entire family participates, in fact, his daughter Valentina, 19, is part of this help and she comments: "I feel happy with what my family does, giving food to those who need it most, because not everyone has the same resources."

Another of the participants is Juan Mauricio Cabrera, who is in charge of making deliveries to the neighbors of the sector, mainly elderly people who cannot go to the common pot in person. He shares with us: "The main reason why I joined is to see the need that has arisen among the neighbors due to the pandemic and I am happy to join this team."

Sandra Tapia, president of the Neighborhood Council, was the one who set up the place for this common pot to work and, in addition, she is in charge of requests for snacks and donations: "Right now, Fondacio is helping us by giving us the food we need."

'Ayudando a Nuestros Vecinos' offers 250 solidarity lunches and works on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8.30 a.m. to 13.00 p.m.
