IFFAsia Module: Nurturing Multiple Intelligences

TRAINING - YOUTH

The Fondacio Asia Training Institute (IFFAsia), for this academic year 2021, had the great privilege of having Sir Butch deliver a 4-day session on “Nurturing Multiple Intelligences”, complemented by 3 days of group application and learning. The course aims to help students discover and celebrate the various ways of manifesting intelligence and enabling the growth of a specific intelligence in people.

It aimed to ensure that students:

  • Understanding the theory of multiple intelligence
  • Better understanding the different intelligences
  • Understanding how to determine individual intelligence
  • Help to nurture the development of specific intelligence in students

“When working with a wide range of people, especially in the mission, it is important to know that individuals also have a wide range of learning styles. Understanding different learning styles can help us better assist and communicate with each individual. If we encounter a communication block, try to vary our delivery methods and styles. The theory of multiple intelligence can guide us in identifying different learning styles and applying different approaches to successfully convey information. This is a belief that comes from one of IFFAsia’s beloved resource persons – Mr. Renato Nayona or popularly called Sir Butch

The students thoroughly enjoyed the classes as Sir Butch applied the theory to them using interactive activities and different learning styles. Apart from learning about different intelligences and learning styles, the course also helped them change their perspective in their relationships with others, especially among the youth. As one participant said, "I realized that I am now more able to put myself in the shoes of someone with a different intelligence than me."

Sir Butch encouraged the student to share his gifts and talents with others and concluded with a story about the corn farmer who generously shared his seeds with his neighbors, resulting in his farm producing the best corn crop.

The story ended with this conclusion: “So it is with our lives… Those who wish to live meaningfully and well must contribute to enriching the lives of others, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. And those who choose to be happy must help others find happiness, for the well-being of each is linked to the well-being of all.”
