IFF Asia is a school of Discipleship - Mission for young adults, professionals and lay leaders in Asia. It prepares and equips the youth for leadership and helps them grow in their unique vocations by nurturing them and guiding them to a path of human & Christian formation. It opens an alternative career or life path for the young, helps them engage with the peripheries, to be in the mission to serve others through the local church, and the civil society.

IFF Asia was launched in May 2006 in Quezon City, Philippines as an initiative of Fondacio at the service of local Churches and communities in the region. It is currently located inside the Radio Veritas Asia compound in Fairview, Quezon City.

It aims for the birth of disciples/apostles, project leaders or actors within Church and in the world. It seeks to help persons to be rooted in their faith in Jesus Christ and gives them the existential basis on which they can build their future. The formation is linked to the identity, spirituality and way of life of the Fondacio community. IFF Asia seeks to facilitate the formation of young leaders with a community and missionary spirituality for the renewal of the Asian Church and society.

The Program

IFF Asia programs foster a wide and unique learning environment with diverse inter-cultural exchange. It is a 9-month live-in program and includes practical and experiential learning; both classrooms learning and field experience such as community visits, social immersion and internship. The first semester focuses on Human formation & Mission orientation while the second semester allows the participants to choose either to specialize in Development Leadership or in Pastoral Leadership.

At the end of the 9-month program, participants are required to create a Development Action Plan (DAP). This will be implemented for two years in and with their sending organizations adapted to the local context. This serves as a concrete application of the knowledge, skills and attitudes they have developed in the program. In addition, as part of their formation and training, a 2-month internship is offered to them in their area of specialization to gain hands-on learning before they return to their respective countries.

Results

IFF Asia has formed 228+ youth from 17 countries (Malaysia, Philippines, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Mongolia, China, Japan, Pakistan, South Korea, Indonesia, Bangladesh, East Timor).

Many of them continue to commit in their communities and dioceses to give valuable and dynamic service such as:

• Youth, Campus, Children,
• Formation, BEC, Catechetic, Evangelisation,
• Community Organising, Social Development,
• Counselling & Relief efforts,
• HIV/AIDS, Migrants & Refugees,
• Communications & Media,
• Persons with Special Needs, School Drop-outs,
• Social Services in Poor Urban Communities, Education
