Since this July, Fondacio has started working with the “Confia” booklet, a solidarity system that connects the most deprived families with their local grocer through the ancient concept of trust.
The system works by means of a "Confia" notebook where the grocer notes the products entrusted to a certain family with a limit of $40,000.
In this way, this family can buy the food they really need, when they need it, excluding alcohol, cigarettes and gambling. The system has the dual objective of supporting local commerce by allowing the money to stay in the neighborhood when Fondacio deposits the amount at this grocer thanks to the donations received.
While a pilot group of 15 families from El Barrero started in June, 10 more families will join in July.
The system will be monitored by a team from Fondacio, who will follow up with the families and stores involved to verify that everything is working as expected.
It's time to "trust" ourselves again and support those who need us most. If you are considering joining a program that supports families most in need and at the same time supports neighborhood businesses.
