On April 21, 2025, Pope Francis passed away at the age of 88, leaving behind a spiritual and human legacy of inestimable depth. The first Jesuit pope, the first pope from Latin America, Jorge Mario Bergoglio left his mark on the Catholic Church and the entire world with his simple style, his powerful words, and his fidelity to the Christ of the peripheries.
A breath of the Gospel for our time
From the beginning of his pontificate in 2013, Pope Francis has envisioned a Church that is "poor for the poor," close to human realities, humble in its means, and bold in its words. He has constantly emphasized that the Gospel calls us to walk alongside the most vulnerable, the forgotten, and the excluded. His gaze toward the peripheries has profoundly aligned with Fondacio's mission.
With Laudato si ' and Fratelli tutti, he gave the world two major texts, calling for an integral ecological conversion and a universal fraternity. These intuitions are in line with our own commitments: to live the faith in a society in transformation, working for unity, peace, and the care of our common home.
A joyful witness to mercy
Pope Francis was a tireless witness to God's mercy. Through his simple gestures—embracing a prisoner, welcoming a homeless person, washing a migrant's feet—he embodied the Gospel with a moving evangelical depth.
He was also a pastor of dialogue, reaching out to other religious traditions, advocating for Christian unity, and calling for people to overcome ideological divisions to build a more just world together.
A source of inspiration for our mission
We give thanks for this journey we have taken with him. His call to go out, to dare, to take care, has nourished our hope. His kind smile, his direct words and his love for young people have illuminated many paths of discernment and commitment.
Today, his departure saddens us, but his message continues to resonate: "Do not be afraid to dream big." We want to carry forward this dream of a fraternal world, a welcoming Church, and a reconciled humanity.
