Youg Lives Development Center in Yangon, Myanmar

In 2005, at the request of Cardinal Bo, Fondacio launched the Youth Leadership Program (YLP) for the Archdiocese of Yangon. The YLDC Yangon grew out of the success of this former YLP program, which ran from 2016 to early 2005.

The goal was to train young leaders, equip them with skills and deepen their faith so that they would be of service to their families and communities. Some of them continued their training at IFFAsia.

To date, more than 400 young adults have been trained, from all dioceses in Myanmar. All are actually employed in various international NGOs, businesses and Church offices. Since 2009, the CBCM (Conference of Catholic Bishops of Myanmar) has called for the training program to be made available to all dioceses.

YLDC Yangon aims to open up opportunities for young people, especially the disadvantaged, and prepare them for work; equip them with skills, deepen their faith so that they are at the service of their families, communities and dioceses.

Fondacio Myanmar’s life skills module aims to open up opportunities for young people, especially the disadvantaged, and prepare them for work. Within the framework of the second module, in continuous program, is the formation ‘Youth Leadership’ which aims to train young leaders to work effectively and harmoniously with the other young people in their communities and dioceses.

During both modules, students are encouraged to participate in income-generating projects, for example card making or t-shirt printing. At the end of the Youth Leadership module, all students have the opportunity to take on-the-job training in areas of their choice – flower arranging or catering, some have even spent time at the Green Pastures project.
