News from Fondacio in Chile.

Since this month of July, Fondacio has started working with the “Confia” booklet, a solidarity system that connects the poorest families to their local grocer thanks to the old concept of trust.

The system works through a “Confia” notebook where the grocer notes the products entrusted to a certain family with a limit of $40,000.

This way, this family can buy the food they really need, when they need it, excluding alcohol, cigarettes and gambling. The system has the double objective of supporting local trade by allowing the money to remain in the neighborhood when Fondacio deposits the amount at this grocer thanks to the donations received.

While a pilot group of 15 families from El Barrero started in June, another 10 families will join in July.

The system will be monitored by a team from Fondacio, who will follow up with affected families and stores to verify that everything is working as expected.

It is time to “trust” each other again and support those who need us most. If you are considering joining a program that supports the poorest families and at the same time supports neighborhood businesses.
